How to add the guide to your home screen on iPhone and Android. After that it opens without internet.
checked in August 2026You can add the guide to your home screen and it will open like an ordinary app — its own icon, full screen, no address bar. No app store, nothing to download, and it takes up less space than a photo.
🍏 iPhone and iPad
- 1Open the guide in Safari — the button does not appear in Chrome on an iPhone.
- 2Tap Share — the square with an arrow, at the bottom of the screen.
- 3Scroll down the list to “Add to Home Screen”.
- 4Tap “Add” in the top right corner.
🤖 Android
- 1Open the guide in Chrome.
- 2Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- 3Choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
- 4Confirm, and the icon appears on your home screen.
- 5Chrome often offers to install it itself, in a bar at the bottom of the screen — then just tap that.
✅ Why bother
- It works without internet. Pages you have read stay on the phone, and the essentials — phone, banks, money, taxis and SOS — are saved on your very first visit. Useful on day one, before you have a SIM.
- It takes almost no space. This is not an app store download: inside there is only text and a few pictures.
- It updates itself. I edit the guide almost every day, and new addresses and prices arrive without reinstalling.
- It asks for nothing. No access to your contacts, camera or location. No sign-up either.
