They practise at the large clinics and private medical centres: no referral needed, you book by phone through reception. Examination, ultrasound and tests are usually done in one visit.

Temur Gogitidze — breast surgeon, oncoplastic surgery

A breast surgeon: diagnosis and surgery for breast cancer, including form-preserving operations. Founder of the LiFE foundation.

LiFE Foundation — early breast cancer detection

Not a clinic but a foundation: it works on early detection of breast cancer through screenings, awareness programmes and campaigns. Founded by Temur Gogitidze. DM them to find out where to get checked.

Ophthalmologist, dermatologist, endocrinologist

They practise at the larger clinics without a referral. The price is quoted beforehand and you book through reception.

Food poisoning

The most common summer complaint among newcomers: unfamiliar water and food in the heat. A pharmacy will give you rehydration salts and an absorbent; if a fever lasts more than a day, see a doctor.

Sunstroke and sunburn

The sun is harsher than it feels because of the sea breeze. First: shade, water and a cool shower; with vomiting or confusion, call 112 straight away.

An animal bite
