Passport
What to do if you lose your passport and how to get a new one: the process, the documents and where to go.
checked in August 2026Two situations bring people here: the passport is lost, or it is running out. The process differs, but both start the same way — with something that proves who you are.
🛂 If you lose your passport
- 1Go to the police and get a loss certificate — you will need it at every later step. The number is 112.
- 2Contact your country's consulate in Georgia: only it can replace a passport.
- 3The consulate issues either a travel document for the journey home or a new passport; timing depends on the country.
- 4If you hold a residence permit, update its details once the new passport is issued.
- 5Keep a scan or photo of your passport in the cloud — it speeds all of the above up enormously.
