Pets

Vets and out-of-hours care, microchips and vaccinations, pet shops, grooming and boarding, taking an animal across the border — and the people who help.

checked in August 2026

Georgia is relaxed and friendly about animals: dogs are welcome on many café terraces and everyone walks along the boulevard. The difficulties start with housing and with taking an animal abroad — prepare for both in advance.

🏥 Veterinary clinics

Chaki veterinary clinic

A small chain with several branches around the city and emergency admissions. The branches go by their addresses: 16a Shalva Inasaridze, 22 and 58 Petre Melikishvili, 8a Yusuf Kobaladze.

🛂 Taking an animal abroad

  1. 1A microchip, fitted at any clinic, with the number written into the animal's passport.
  2. 2A rabies vaccination, no later than 21 days before you travel.
  3. 3Parasite treatment and a clinical examination note from the vet.
  4. 4A veterinary passport with the full details: species, breed, sex, age, name, chip number and vaccinations.
  5. 5A certificate from the clinic. They also give you the account number for paying the export certificate fee.
  6. 6Pay 200 ₾ to that account at Bank of Georgia and keep the receipt.
  7. 7Collect the export certificate at the Ministry of Agriculture, 47 Gogebashvili St, Batumi. Bring the clinic's certificate and the receipt.
  8. 8Check the requirements of the destination country: the EU wants one set of papers, Turkey and Armenia another.

📄 Where the certificate is issued

Ministry of Agriculture

This is where you collect the export certificate — after the clinic and the payment. It is valid for a limited time, so people get it close to departure.

Address:
47 Gogebashvili St, Batumi
Cost:
200 ₾, transferred to the account the clinic gives you
Bring:
the clinic's certificate and the payment receipt

Payment only to the account number from the clinic — they do not take cash on site.

🏠 Renting with a pet

Flats that take animals

Owners differ: some refuse outright, some ask for a bigger deposit. Mention the animal before the viewing — otherwise you waste time and risk an ugly departure later.

🛍 Pet shops

Pet shops

Food and litter are sold in pet shops around town and in the big supermarkets — the Carrefour in Black Sea Mall has a decent section. Prescription diets are easier to order for delivery.

Boarding and walking

There are few boarding kennels in the city, but private sitters are found in Telegram chats, along with reviews. Look at Batumi Mums and the city chats under “Connections”.

Book ahead: in season and over holidays places go weeks in advance.

✂️ Grooming and boarding

Grooming

Grooming salons for dogs and cats exist downtown and in the residential districts. You usually book through Instagram, where you can also see their work.

Boarding

While you travel, private sitters look after the animal — you find them in the city chats, where the reviews are visible too. Dedicated pet hotels are scarce.

🐾 Walking and dog parks

The boulevard and the parks

People walk dogs along the boulevard and in 6 May Park. There are almost no fenced dog runs, so keep the lead on in busy places.

Beaches

In season dogs are not allowed on the city beaches, but out of town — Gonio, Kvariati, the wild stretches — they run free.
